Tax Bill .... Collections!

So I had a tax bill from a couple of years of ago only of £1.2k but I questioned it & then sent further letters ... which were never replied to ! Months later i get a tax refund cheque for much more & think of nothing about early Bill ... still not replied to !! Today I got a letter from a Collections Agency for the original Bill !!! Clearly these are 2 different years but what a stupid way to run a billing system !!!?

I get a tax rebate every year. joys of only working 9 months at a time.

A pal had a refund of about £7k many years ago, which he gladly accepted and spent. Some time later he received a letter from HMRC saying it was a mistake and he owed £13k including interest/vcharges
